 Greetings families,

Welcome to our spring semester 2021! We are off to a strong start for our new year with about 85% of our students returning for in person learning. We will miss our distance learners but look forward to seeing everyone in the fall of 2021.

Our first music classes of the month have been very productive and engaging. We are learning a new song this month, The Battle hymn of the Republic. Studying this American Civil War Hymn gives us a good opportunity to gain insight into our own ability to persevere through tough situations. We are also working in our theory books and occasionally visiting the outdoor classroom for some safe singing time.

In place of a spring concert, we will be exploring ways to record students singing so parents and guardians can still enjoy the fruits of our labor. Stay tuned for more information about our modified Spring concert.

Please reach out with any questions you may have about our music classes.

Truly,

Mrs. Kaye

Greetings Archway Arete Students,

I hope you all had a wonderful spring break! My family and I enjoyed spending time together doing some picnicking, baking, taking long bike rides and doing some spring cleaning. I personally enjoyed sleeping in and reading! After such a relaxing time it looks like we are faced with some new challenges in our learning community. I am always up for a new challenge so creating your learning packets has been very interesting work for me. I hope you are looking forward to your new adventure in learning. All the directions are included in my lessons and I know you can do a good job of completing your entire packet if you are willing to persevere. I look forward to seeing you in the future and until then, happy studies!

All the best Mrs. Kaye

Welcome to the Archway Arête Music program. We are all excited to start our sixth year, learning about moral and intellectual virtue in the beautiful environment of Archway Arête . Scholars at Archway Arête will attend music class twice a week for three weeks and three times a week on the fourth week.

In my career as a music teacher I have had experience teaching students from K through 12. I am very blessed and humbled to have been chosen to teach music at Archway Arête Academy. An unknown author once wrote a poem that epitomizes why I teach music:
Not because I expect you to major in music.
Not because I expect you to play or sing all your life.
Not so you can relax or have fun.
But- So you will be human.
So you will recognize beauty.
So you will be sensitive.
So you will be closer to an infinite beyond this world.
So you will have something to cling to.
So you will have more love, more compassion, more gentleness, more good....in short, more life.
Of what value will it be to make a prosperous living unless you know how to live?
My music education focus has been vocal performance. This year I look forward to the pursuit of Truth, Beauty and Goodness, through the art of music, with your children. As well as teaching 4th and 5th grade music I will also be serving as Dean of Students during our 2019/2020 academic year. I look forward to serving our community in nurturing a love of intellectual and moral virtue.

This year we will study the process of breathing and singing in the classical tradition, music theory, music history and sight reading skills. This will be accomplished through singing, moving, playing instruments, discussions and worksheets. My goal is to ignite a love and curiosity for music that will remain with your children throughout their lives.

We will have two choral concerts. The dates are as follows:

November 20, 2019 - Winter Concert: Grades K-5

May 6, 2020 -  Spring Concert: Grades K-5

The attire for the winter* concerts will be as follows:
Boys: Black pants, white dress shirt, black dress shoes and black socks. Hair should be combed neatly.
Girls: Black skirt, White top, black tights and black dress shoes. Hair should be pulled away from face with no distracting adornment. (Jewelry is the same as the dress code in the hand book.)
* Spring concert will be held on campus and school uniform will be the concert attire.
Thank you all for joining Archway Arête Academy in our quest for excellence!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Stephanie Kaye
